Last night someone, who shall remain nameless, asked me the question of could you love both of your children the same.  This person, who is a parent to one child, went on to state that they love their child so much that they could not find it possible to love another just as much.  After they asked me this question I paused.  I paused not to think about whether or not  I love both my children just as much, but I paused to try and find the right words or to find the right way to explain to this person that I love both of my children equally.

My children have quite the age gap between them, eight years to be exact.  I love them so differently, but just as much if that makes any sort of sense.  My oldest son is 9. And what I love about him is that he is still so close to his mama.  He still gives me hugs and never turns a cheek when I go to give him good night kisses.  I love that he is growing up to be a really great kid.  I love that he has compassion and empathy.  I love that he is a great friend to not only his school buddies, but also to his little brother.  I love him because he is an amazing big brother to Liam.  Aj has continued to amaze me and if her were my only child I would think that there would be no way that I could possibly find enough love in my heart to love another child.  But then, Liam came along.

Liam is my baby.  I love him for all the things that Aj has grown out of.  Liam will sit on my lap and cuddle with his momma.  Liam has an innocence about him that only a young toddler can have.  His world involves waking up, eating, pooping and playing.  I love that I get to teach Liam how to walk, how to talk, how to pick up a cheerio and eat it.  I love it when Liam smiles at me when I walk through the door.  I love the fact that Liam still needs to be in his mommas or daddy's arms to fall asleep.  I love looking at Liam while he is sleeping and watching his tiny lip quiver.

I can't quite explain it and never thought it would be possible to love both children the same.  But I do! I love both of my boys with all of my heart and I love how they have a definite bond with each other.  Sometimes I look at my boys, sitting on the floor playing and I think to my self, "Wow! those are my boys, I am a mom, A mom!" It is at that moment that nothing else in the entire world matters  more than my family.  My cute, adorable, sometimes fresh, often times whiny Family and I love them! All of them just the same.

Menu Plan Sunday

I had the entire day to sit around and think up the menu for this week.  I have said it before and I will say it again, life is so much easier when you know what's for dinner.  So below is, well... what's for dinner this week.

Sunday: Butter Chicken with Green Beans and Chicken and Broccoli Pasta

Monday: This is game night so we have to keep it lite.  Chicken Wings and Rice

Tuesday: Meatloaf with Potato and Veggie

Wednesday: Saltine Fried Chicken with Potato Salad and Corn on the Cob

Thursday: Another Game Night.  Cheeseburgers with Macaroni Salad and Fries

Friday: This is take out night

Saturday: Italian Sausage Peppers and Onions with Thin Spaghetti and Sauce.

Pleasantville U.S.A?

I was on my way traveling to work the other day going down the same scenic route I always take.  The houses are monstrous, all with well manicured lawns and of course each house has a swing set.  "Boy!" I thought to myself. "does every family in this town have kids or what?"  Anyway, I continued traveling along, past the roadside flower stand, "Awww!" I thought.  Then thinking, with places like Lowe's and Home Depot who the heck buys flowers at a roadside stand?  And how many flowers can they actually have at this roadside stand?  Note to self, stop by road side stand on my way home and see just how many flowers they sell. As I continue my drive along this beautiful stretch of scenery, I notice the big, beautiful church with the little old ladies all dressed up in front.  "Penny and Mabel must be waiting for Sylvia! She's late." I giggle to myself.. Penny and Mabel?  I crack myself up, I thought.  Focus Heather, Focus! Traveling a little more ways down the street, I figure I must be nearing a school.  I drive past two little boys, pedaling as fast as they could, wearing helmets, nonetheless. Next I pass a group of moms who are walking with their children.  The two little girls up front are skipping and holding hands.  Aww, how cute! The boys are holding sticks as if they were swords.  I think to myself, "Does everyone in this town walk to school?"  As I drive a little more ways up I can't believe my eyes.  I spot a mom and her three kids, all riding bikes of course and of course they have their helmets on.  But that wasn't what was so strange to me.  What was strange is the way the mom was.  She was riding this old fashioned bicycle, with the wicker basket on front AND she had the biggest smile on her face.  The only thing missing was the little birdie singing on her shoulder.  Where am I? I thought.  I don't know about many of you, but when I am bringing my son to school, I am still in my pj's  for one and there is NOT , I repeat NOT a huge grin across my face.  I have a scowl upon my face and I am cranky about being up that early (although it is not early at all - I am just not a morning person.) 
Those moms that I passed that day - where they stepford wives? What gives?   Why did everyone look like they had not a care in the world?  Gleefully going about their daily activities.My adventure on my way to work that day was comical to say the least.  If I din;t see moms walking together bringing their children to school, I saw them running in pairs along the main drag - oops, I mean street.  I can imagine the looks on their faces if they heard me call their precious street a drag.  Betcha they wouldn't be smiling then! Ohhh darn it! I forgot to stop by the roadside stand!!!

Proud Momma!

On Monday of this week Aj had his baseball game.  It was a cool day so I really wasn't looking forward to sitting at the field for 2 hours watching this game go on and on, and on.... I know, I sound like a bad mom but hey - that's the truth.  So blanket, winter vest and gloves in hand I headed out to the field.  My dad was there so I took up a seat beside him.  When I glanced on the field I quickly looked around for Aj and then - I spotted him! On the pitcher's mound. My heart began to beat a little faster and butterflies took over my stomach.  With clinched teeth and fist I sat through three innings.  Breathing a sigh of relief, I went over to the dugout to congratulate him on such an awesome inning.  As the innings went on, my fist were clenched tighter and I was now at the point where I wasn't even watching him pitch.  I was looking down at the sand and waiting with baited breath for the voice of the umpire to call, "Strike!"  You would think that this was game 7 of the world series or something of that nature because of how nervous I was.  With every strike he threw, I would jump out and clap. "That's my boy!" I thought to myself with a great big smile.  Then came the fourth inning and bases were loaded and Aj was up.  I took a deep breath.  We had two outs. The first few pitches he swung at were high.  Then it came, he made contact and BAM! he hit it to the outfield and I looked and the kids were all rounding the bases, the bleachers erupted, o.k. so me and my dad were erupting.  I couldn't believe it.  he got all the other kids home and he made it to third!!! "That's my boy!" I thought as I sat there on the bleachers with the biggest grin a mom could ever have.  The ended up on winning the game and now it was off to the outfield for sprints and a "pep" talk.  I don't know why the coach makes them sprint after every game.  It was freezing out and it was getting late.  This momma has had enough. The huddle breaks up and I see Aj emerge holding the game ball.  Now he was the one with the smile from ear to ear.  He held on to that ball so tight.  He was so proud of himself, as he should have been.  He made sure all of his teammates cleared the field before he wanted to go.  I think he was showing off his new prized possession.  On the way to the car, he held that ball high. He even told kids from the other team that he got the game ball, although I'm sure they couldn't have missed it because he was holding that ball up like it was the Stanley Cup. 

Hopefully that day will become a precious memory for Aj. One that he will treasure for years to come.  Hopefully when he gets older he will be able to re tell the story to his kids. I long to hear the story myself as only Aj can tell it.The day he got eight strikeouts  and hit a "bomb" , as he likes to refer to it. Certainly that story will be a story I will never grow tired of listening to.
