It's Exhausting...

....Trying to be the perfect mom, that is.  After all, what is the perfect mom? Does everybody picture the perfect mom the same?  I try day in and day out to be the best mom I can be.  I try to do things I believe "the perfect" mom would do.  I make my oldest son and his friends after school snacks.  I bake cookies with my kids, we go for nature walks, we read together, sit together and have family dinners together.   So why is it that I feel like I am depriving my children of the "perfect mom?" Damn you perfect mom and screw the person who came up with that idea.
  Is there a real life June Cleaver out there? If there is, I want to meet her, shake her hand and bow down to her.  My gosh, I have a hard enough time getting myself out of bed in the morning.  This woman not only gets herself out of bed, she gets her children up (may i mention without any struggles), dresses herself AND cooks THE perfect breakfast.  WHAT???? not to mention she does all the shopping, cooking and cleaning.  There can't be someone out there that does all this, can there be?
Sure I do the food shopping MOST of the time.  Cooking.. well, that's another story but I do do ALL of the cleaning and let me tell you cleaning up after three other people is a job all in it of itself.  So why do i feel guilty if I'm not interacting with my children every second of the day.  Why do I feel guilty if I choose cleaning the tub rather than sitting down with the little guy and reading a book.  I'll tell you why, because the perfect mom would be able to do all that - and more.  But as i sit and write this i came to the  sudden realization that although we may not think we are the perfect mom, our children certainly think we are.

Our Day at the Park

I decided to take the little guy to the park.  The sun was shinning and it was a fantastic day weather wise.  When I arrived at the park, I was siked that there were no other parents with little children there.  I breathed a huge sigh of relief. I directed Liam to the massive slide and draw bridge.  He ran over the draw bridge and him and I took a turn down the slide.  I didn't realize how bumpy the slide was and I accidentally kneed my little man in the chin, however he didn't seem to notice.  What he did notice was the little white picket fence in front of us.  So with lip bleeding he bolted over to the fence.  He opened the gate, then closed it, opened it and then closed it.  This went on for a while.. a very long while.  He was so amazed at how the gate latched.  He analyzed the gate and I knew the little wheels in in head were turning.  After about ten minutes I tried to divert his attention to the swings.  He looked up at me as if to say, "seriously mom, I'm busy!" So I did what any mother would do and I scooped him up and we raced over to the swings.  He screamed the entire way.  If someone were to be passing by, I'm sure they would have thought I was hurting him.  I placed him in the swing with great excitement, but all he wanted was the gate.  He kept pointing and oh,oh,oohing... I reluctantly took him out of the swing and he was off.  You would have thought he saw Santa Clause of the Easter bunny. And so he proceeded to play with that gate the entire time we were at the park.  Yes, I stayed there for 45 minutes while my son played with a gate.. open, close, open, close, open, close..................

    Your back.. Have you ever really left?. What if I pass out, what about my kids? what about the baby? what if I am alone with the baby and I pass out?  Damn you anxiety! You have taken a hold of my life once again.  I am a prisoner in my own home.  Held captive by my fears. You are preventing me from seeing people, making new friends, enjoying a day out shopping.  You have prevented my sons from having friends because I am too afraid to strike up a conversation with their parents. Anxiety you have taken a hold of me and I need to break free! I need to free myself from you ugliness! I need to rid myself of the fears you give me and I need to live my life! If not for the sack of me, but for the sake of my children and the people that I love.

That's All Folks....

With a 1,2,3 last inning AJ's first year of baseball was over.  Well, that's not completely true.  He still has the All Stars.  I have to say that I am so proud of AJ's.  This was his first year playing  any organized sport.  He had started the year a rookie, so to speak, and has ended an All-Star.  He went in not knowing what to expect. He learned the basics of baseball, how to properly throw a baseball, he how to play a few different positions including, pitcher, catcher and short stop.  He learned what is means to be a team player and most importantly he learned that playing baseball is not about winning or losing, it's about having fun.  I think AJ's favorite part of the season was when he played against his best friend.  He would get giddy before all the games and he would always say, "we are gonna beat Dylans' team and then I am going to rub it in his face at school!" I would giggle to myself but then remind AJ's that he is there to have fun.  In the end it was his best friends team that beat Aj's team to advance in the playoffs and put a perpetual fork in Aj's team.  They were done!!!!!
